Magnificient Organs: Our Kidneys! Our kidneys filter and clean 200 liters of blood every day. DID YOU KNOW THAT...?
A healthy human body contains of 2 kidneys. They are replaced right behind our stomach, near the two sides of the backbone and below the bottom rib-bone. Each kidney has a size of a squeezed human fist.
Vital Filters
Approximately 5 liters of blood is circulating in our body. Our kidneys filter and clean this amount of blood 40 times every day. That makes 200 liters, which is equal to 200 bottles or an amount to fill 20 buckets!
Our kidneys helps the waste materials or excess water to be removed as urine.
Chemistry Masters
Our kidneys are vital and sophisticated in many ways.
They balance the levels of chemical materials in our body such as sodium, phosphorus and potassium. They produce important hormones which stimulates the bone marrow that builds red blood cells, and also hormones which regulates our blood pressure and strengthens our bones.
What is a chronicle kidney disease?
If our kidneys start losing their functions, then we can talk about chronicle kidney disease. This is an unobtrusive silent disease since we can't feel it. It affects more people that you can imagine. 1 of each 10 people has a damage in the kidneys. High blood pressure and diabetes are the main factors that causes chronicle kidney diseases.
The frequency of chronicle kidney diseases, which affects 500 millions of people already, is rising because of the increase Type 2 diabetes worldwide. If the chronicle kidney disease gets worse, it causes kidney failure. People with severe kidney failure need a kidney transplantation or they must be connected to a dialysis machine that cleans the blood 3 times a week in order to survive. Dialysis and transplantation are successful treatments but in many countries it is hard to find these possibilities, in the near future this treatment will not be received in the developed countries.
There is a bigger risk than kidney failure, and that is, these patients can catch cardiovascular diseases which is the most important and deadly disease in the world nowadays: People having chronicle kidney diseases has risk of death 10 times more than a healthy people, because of a heart attack or a stroke. Early diagnosis and protection:
Fotunately, chronicle kidney diseases can be discovered early and diagnosed easily.
The early signs of kidney problems can be determined by simple, economic urine and blood tests and measures of blood pressure. And the good news is; after we determine these problems, by taking the right medicine to control the blood pressure, by curing diabetes correctly, and by making small changes in our life style; then we can
· slow down, even stop the way to kidney failure.
· Prevent cardiovascular diseases.
